Being Midwesterners transplanted in Florida, the traditional fall cues are few and far between. No leaves turning, no early morning frost (or snow), and worst of all, no apple picking. Fortunately, fall recipes can help fill the void. And what better time to contemplate some delicious fall recipes, than a week before Thanksgiving!
The first recipe was teased in the picture above and features three of the greatest ingredients that can grace a bowl together - beer, cheese and bacon. This particular recipe comes from Epcot's Food & Wine Festival (via Canada & Le Cellier Restaurant) - Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup. With the calendar officially turning the page to October, it's a great time to get ahead of things (for once!) and start your Halloween party planning. Whether you're throwing a formal party or simply gathering friends and family for some pre- and post-game Halloween festivities, we're here to help!
Your first step is to choose your Halloween party invitations. Check out some of our cute designs. While you're at it, don't forget corresponding address labels, place cards, cupcake picks, or even blank Halloween stationery to send to family or out-of-town friends!
Once you've set the guest list, the next task is to figure out what to do with all those ghosts and goblins. We've compiled some links below to help you out with idea brainstorming and resource planning. We know how busy you are so hopefully this saves you some time. The Food
After stationery (of course!), the second most important part to party planning is the food. Sure the kids will have enough candy to fill a small SUV, but holiday specific finger foods and appetizers really set the mood for your guests.
Foodnetwork.com has some tremendous Halloween ideas including spooky cocktails, cupcakes, caramel apples and a couple fantastic savory recipes including this squash soup in a pumpkin bowl recipe. Familyfun.com has a great page dedicated to 25 spooky Halloween treats.
The Pumpkins
You've no doubt honed your pumpkin carving skills, but a little more on the unexpected side are two pumpkin ideas we love. The first idea is this adorable Eeek! pumkin at Caboose.com. We also love this Jack O'Totem from hgtv.com.
Fun for the Kids
When it comes to crafts and party activities, marthastewart.com has some fantastic ideas to use. A great idea is this "Pop goes the Pumpkin" game using balloons, confetti, and candy. Another idea is this cute Pasta Skeleton activity- inexpensive and easy to do! Head to Better Homes and Gardens.com (BHG.com) for this fantastic tin can luminary project.
